During the past week, the David City FCCLA group collected toys for Toys for Tots. The goal was to collect as many toys as possible and raise a total of $150.

Toys accepted had to be worth five dollars as well as be new, untampered with, and in the original packaging. After collecting donations for a week, the FCCLA group packaged and sent everything to the Marines in Fremont. The Marines are then in charge of gift giving. Donations are distributed to children whom are less fortunate during the holiday season. A total of 38 toys were collected.

“FCCLA is a huge part of the community around the holidays to give to the less fortunate,” FCCLA member senior Jennifer Knopp said.

The reward for collecting items through Toys for Tots was free passes to Camp Fontanelle. An estimated 35-40 students were able to attend Camp Fontanelle’s Scary Corn Maze on Fri., Oct. 27.

FCCLA members also did a “Scary Box” during lunches on Tue., Oct. 31 to raise awareness for the cause. The Scary Box fundraiser raised a total of $46.75 for Toys for Tots.
