Thanksgiving . . . a time to thank mentors

Chantel Denker, PR Chair, Butler County TeamMates Mentoring Program

Thanksgiving is a time when we historically give thanks for good harvest, good family, and good friends.  It’s also the perfect time to thank those who have been mentors in our life and who have helped to develop us into the person we are today.

A mentor, by definition, is someone who teaches or gives help and advice to a less experienced person.  No matter our age, we all need and benefit from having mentors in our life.  Mentors help us to see ourselves in a different light.  Mentors can be both nurturing and truthful at the same time.  Mentors will listen to our dreams and aspirations and will encourage us to achieve our best.  Mentors offer guidance but will also let us make our own decisions and help us learn from our mistakes.

We encourage each of you to reflect back on the people who have been important in your life both past and present, and contact that person with a note, email, text, or phone call to thank them for their mentorship.  It’s a great way to give back.

The Butler County TeamMates Mentoring Program would like to say “Thank You” to all of our mentors for making a difference.  A TeamMates Mentor is someone who provides a young person with support, friendship, and a positive example.  Butler County TeamMates serves students at East Butler, David City Public, St. Mary’s and Aquinas schools.
