Braxton Small won Runner-Up at the NSAA State Journalism Championships on April 26th in Norfolk, NE in the Newspaper Feature Writing category.
Small’s preliminary entry, “Stickmen, Smilies, and Students” was one of eight finalists selected from Class C for the championships. The Championship competition was held at Northeast Community College, where contestants were given one hour and fifteen minutes to write a feature story using background materials that were provided that day.
“I barely had anything for the first half hour, and then I was the first one done. It was scary,” Small recalls.
“Being able to write well under deadline is part of the experience of journalism,” said Journalism sponsor Mrs. Olson. ” Since I’m a new advisor, I didn’t have a lot of information for him to help prepare him for the experience. I am proud of Braxton’s performance and how well he represented David City.”
