Scout basketball teams stride through a busy week

It has been a busy week for the Scout Basketball teams with having to play three games within 5 days. Luckily, on Saturday, January 18, 2020, the team finished the crazy schedule. Both girls and boys’ teams played against the Malcolm Clippers to finish off the week. And for all those attended, they would know how crazy it was!

The first games were played at 4:30 by both boys and girls JV teams. Both JV teams played well, however, too many shots just didn’t fall. The girls and boys lost their games. Even with these loses, the varsity teams weren’t going down without a fight. The Varsity girls game started at 6:00 p.m. The first half of the game was a wild ride for the Lady Scouts, with each team scoring every possession, making great plays and moving the ball around well. Although there were mistakes, the Lady Scouts ended the half 22-25, only down three.

“We played with a lot of fire and energy! It was really fun to watch and experience,” sophmore Lydia Ockander stated.

Unfortunately for the Lady Scouts, The Lady Clippers had some fire against their back in the third quarter, scoring 14 points, while the Scouts made none. Even with the difference, the Lady Scouts fought hard. In the fourth quarter, the Scouts made 16 points, getting closer and closer to the opponents score. The game ended 38-54. Although it was a tough loss, the team learned some valuable information about the game, and will tackle the Shelby-Rising City Huskies on Tuesday, January 21, 2020.

“This game was difficult for us, as we did some things that we haven’t done in a long time,” head coach Beth Bouslavsky said. “However, this game does not define who we are or what our season will be. It was just a bump in our road to success.”

The boys’ basketball team followed the girls’ game at 7:15 p.m. The boys came out with energy and fire as they just got their first season win against Raymond Central on January 14, 2020. The first half was full of great defense, amazing shooting, and of course, winning. The Scouts ended the half 33-27, with the Scouts scoring a buzzer beater shot!

“I thought the game was good and we all had lots of fun but it was stressful from time to time, especially at the end,” junior Jordan Kracl said.

The momentum from the first half helped carry the Scouts along as they made lay-up after lay-up after lay-up. However, the fire the Scouts came out in was just the same for the Clippers. In the 4th quarter alone, the Clippers scored 30 points, all being three-point shots. This half was full of back to back shooting, fouls, and lots and lots of timeouts. The ending score of the game was 71-66, the Scouts claiming their second victory!

“The way we handled ourselves from beginning to end was incredible. We had so much energy and confidence; it was the game to see!” head coach Aaron Carlson stated. “I truly believe this was one of our best games, the win was just a cherry on top!” head coach Aaron Carlson stated.

The next game the Scout Basketball teams will play is scheduled on January 28, 2020, against the Yutan Chieftains at home.
