The David City 2019 Volleyball Team bumped into the season on Tuesday, August 20th, playing against Fullerton and Central City for the annual Jamboree game. 

The first game of the night was the Fullerton versus David City match. The game started off strong with both teams with points flying back and forth. Over the course of the match, sophomore Neely Behrns accumulated 7 digs and 5 kills, junior Lauren Vandenburg accumulated 10 digs and 7 kills, junior Maya Couch accumulated 4 kills, and junior Payton Andel accumulated 14 assists. The match ended with the David City Scouts and the Fullerton Warriors both winning a set, resulting in a tie.

“The team played great,” Andel stated. “We meshed well and we all on the same page with the same winning attitude.”

The second game the Scouts took apart of was the last game of the night, which was David City versus Central City. This was another tough game, but the Scouts definitely found their groove. Over the course of the match, Behrns accumulated 14 digs and 3 kills, Vandenburg accumulated 11 kills and 2 blocks, Couch accumulated 7 kills and 3 blocks, Andel accumulated 7 digs and 15 assists, and junior Natalie Blum acquired 9 digs. Although the game was long, the Scouts managed to pull through with a 2-0 sets won, winning the game! 

After the jamboree game, I feel that we came out and showed some amazing things that we are going to do during the season,” junior Shelby Hein said. “Although there is always something to work on, our first impression definitely left a building block for the rest of the season.”

The Jamboree game was very successful for the Scouts and has proved their work ethic and determination for the season. Their next game is Thursday, August 29 against St. Paul at home.
